The ambition of Little Island was to create a park that is welcoming to all, offering free access to culture and green space. This independent Social Impact Study by AEA Consulting was commissioned to measure whether those objectives were met.
Our design approach for this report, including the motion thumbnail clips, aimed to balance the serious, academic nature of the research with the vibrant, enjoyable experience of visiting Little Island. With such a diverse audience, we faced the challenge of ensuring the report didn’t come across as overly serious or weighty, which could contradict the park’s perception as a laid-back, joyful space. Our goal was to strike the right balance—infusing the design with both seriousness and a positive, serene atmosphere that resonates with urban planners and park visitors alike.

Hand-drawn elements bring the joy and calm of Little Island to life, inviting visitors to interact and connect with the space.
Our latest collaboration with Heatherwick Studio on the Little Island Social Impact Report explores how Little Island NYC is serving New Yorkers, blending deep analysis with the park’s lively spirit. Our design strikes the perfect balance—insightful yet as welcoming and fun as Little Island itself. We aimed to merge seriousness with a calm, inviting vibe, ensuring it resonates with everyone from urban planners to park-goers.
